Robomower - Lawn Care of the future now

Robomower by Friendly-Robotics models, (Upgradeable) and RL1000 as well as the RM200 and RM 400 are breaking the barrier between what used to be strictly a human job and what can now be done by a thinking machine. The Robomower uses on board compass and bumper sensors to identify where it is going and where it should go next, with a distinct perimeter wire setup by the lawn owner to indicate where it should cut.

Ever think about characters mowing the lawn in sci-fi movies? People in sci-fi never have to mow their lawn because robots do all the work for them. Isaac Azimov had a dream about robots doing house chores that some of us seem to think will always be for human machines only. Well, mowing the lawn goes right out their into the sci-fi world nowadays with real-world Robomowers.

How long does it take to find its way around the yard? Robomowers take about three times as long to do a normal walk behind job. Initially, the wire fencing is set up on the first use and then does all the work for you.

Robomowers cut in a randomized fashion zigging and zagging from one end to the other of the perimeter non-stop. They do this until the lawn has been completely cut and even mulched in three different compartments so that it falls back into the lawn. The three compartment mulching provides a quick composting fertilizer that keeps the lawn stronger and thicker every time its mowed with a quick adjust ability of 1.5 3.5 inches high.

  • RM200 - for lawns of up to 2,700ft2
  • RM400 - for lawns of up to 3,200-4,300ft2 (comes with base docking station)
  • RL850 - for lawns of up to 10,700ft2
  • RL1000 - for lawns of up to 12,900-17,200ft2 (comes with base docking station)

Depending on where you plan to mow, the size of your lot and what kind of grass you have, will make the difference on how long it will take to mow, but generally speaking Robomowers take three times as long as walk behinds, but are a hundred times safer. The main reason for this safety. The fact that humans don’t even get near the Robomower while its working are what make it so safe.

If you have other things to do in the yard, or just want to read on the patio, that’s fine. Robomowers can be even left unattended if you are sure nobody will be curious to go over and look at it. In this case, the Robomower comes with a special anti-theft and child guard mode that tells people to keep away.

Video of Robomower in action:

Robomowers are impervious to rainy weather conditions while working and they have a specially designed rechargeable electric motor that makes them quiet and neighbor friendly. Robomowers are also environmentally friendly with no pollution from the traditional toxic gases released by old style walk-behind gas engines.

The new 2006 RL-1000 model even comes with its own self docking and recharging unit that can be set to come and go from the lot and back all by itself. Charging should be done out of the rain however, and storing it indoors is a good idea to make it last longer.

On the average the American home owners lawn is some 5,000 square feet and Robomowers can easily do from 4,000 6,000 square feet on one single charge, but if you have two lots that size or more, it might be better to do different cuts for each lot, thereby making it more efficient per lot.

In the end, Robomowers are safer as they take the human element out of lawn mowing and save time for humans to do other things, either just as important, if not more important than mowing the lawn. After all there is always the garbage to take to the curb, so were not out of business yet as human machines.
